Nestled in the hills just outside Florence, Villa Il Garofalo offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the city’s skyline, including the iconic Duomo by Brunelleschi. Originally built in the late 13th century, the villa was once the countryside retreat of none other than Dante Alighieri and his family. Its name, Il Garofalo, comes from the Alighieri’s ancient family name, "Gheri"—with Gherofano meaning “the place that hosts the Gheri.”
Over the centuries, the villa has passed through many hands—from the Portinari family in the 14th century to noble Florentine families throughout the Renaissance. It was lovingly restored in the 19th century by the Bondi family, with final works completed by the Rimbotti Counts after WWII, returning the villa to its former glory.
Today, Villa Il Garofalo blends timeless Renaissance elegance with refined, modern sophistication. Inside, you’ll find grand halls adorned with original frescoes and tapestries, a majestic piano room, a ballroom, and even a mirror room centred around a stunning mahogany table. The outdoor spaces are equally impressive, featuring a traditional Italian garden designed by Niccolò Tribolo (of Boboli Gardens fame) and a romantic English-style park filled with centuries-old trees and winding paths.
The villa can host up to 120 guests for both ceremony and reception—indoors or outdoors—making it ideal for medium-sized weddings. And if the weather doesn’t play along? Not to worry—its elegant interiors offer the perfect plan B without compromising on atmosphere.

Whether you're dreaming of a farm-to-table feast, wood-fired pizzas served al fresco, or a full-service multi-course Tuscan banquet, catering can be tailored to your tastes. The villa offers excellent infrastructure to support high-quality food service, including areas suitable for setting up mobile kitchens.

Rental of Accommodation AT "LA MAGIONE DEGLI Alighieri":
This place is separate from the events area and is connected to the other spaces via an internal gate.
The Mangione can hosts up to 10 guests and it’s composed by:
A large park
Three lounges on the ground floor.
Five double rooms with en suite bathrooms on the upper floors.
Swimming pool with gazebo
A jacuzzi located on the terrace of the Master room.
A dining room suitable for 14 guests ( it's possible plan dinner or lunch in the covered veranda or in the courtyard)
A modern kitchen at the side of dining room.
Breakfast service is upon request
Price for 3 nights from €6.500 to €8.500 (according to the number of guests). On requests, its possible have additional nights.
Please note: Use of the park and pool is reserved to the guests of Magione Alighieri.
USEFULL INFORMATION + EXTRAS
For daytime suppliers can access to the venue from 8.00 am, instead for events in the evening suppliers can access to the venue from 1.00 am. For access at different times, every hour have an extra fee of € 500.
For assembly and disassembly of tens structures or similar is requested an extra cost of € 2500 for week weddings and of € 3500 for wedding in week-end or holidays
Each extra hour after 1.00am has a cost of € 800. The couples can add max 2 hours extra, because the venue is available for the after dinner until 3am and had to book it in advance.
The music is not allowed outside after 11.30pm, but the guests can have music in the dance rooms inside of the villa until 00.30am if the rental end at 1.00am or until 2.30am if the rental ends at 3.00am (so always half an hour before the end of rental time)
