San Fabiano lies in the Crete Senesi countryside, just 20 minutes from the medieval city of Siena and 1 hour 25 minutes from Florence airport. It’s easy for your guests to reach and feels a world away once they arrive

San Fabiano began as a small hamlet around its chapel, which gives the estate its name and dates back to the 9th century. During the Middle Ages the village was fortified. In the early 1400s the Republic of Siena strengthened it as a defensive outpost, guarding the countryside south of the city.

Over time the castle passed to the noble Forteguerri family. They gradually turned the fortress into an elegant country villa, and in the 19th century they restored the courtyard and added its graceful loggia. In the 1950s Count Giuseppe Fiorentini bought the estate and renovated it as a family residence and hunting retreat. The Fiorentini family still lives at San Fabiano today. They welcome couples to an authentic historic home recognised as a Residenza d’Epoca, rather than to a commercial venue.

Architecture: Sienese Brick, Towers and Loggias

San Fabiano is a classic example of Sienese rural architecture. Warm terracotta brick, arched loggias and herringbone brick floors give the estate its rose-gold colour, glowing at sunset and under evening lights.

At its heart rises the medieval main tower, covered in Virginia creeper that is vivid green in summer and turns deep crimson in autumn. Around it stand:

• the old farm buildings

• the chapel

• the inner courtyard, whose 19th-century loggia makes a beautiful reception space and a reliable wet-weather option

Inside, vaulted ceilings, wrought-iron chandeliers and antique doors keep the atmosphere of a lived-in historic house.

Style: Romantic, Elegant and Authentically Tuscan

San Fabiano has the feel of a private Tuscan estate rather than a hotel. About one hectare of English-style gardens surrounds the castle, with clipped hedges, cypress avenues and manicured lawns. Terracotta vases filled with lemon trees and hydrangeas line the paths, and a 200-year-old hackberry tree shades the lawn.

The setting suits many wedding styles: classic and elegant, relaxed garden chic, or candlelit romance in the courtyard. Beyond the gardens, the rolling hills of the Crete Senesi stretch towards the Val d’Orcia, giving every photograph a timeless Tuscan backdrop.
